Project Engineer- Heavy Civil Construction
Summary/Objective
The Project Engineer supports field construction activities for large infrastructure projects, handling project controls, field engineering, quantity take-offs, operational planning, cost control, scheduling, material procurement, contract administration, and field coordination. The role ensures compliance with project plans and specifications, maintaining records for submittals, progress, costs, and material usage. Candidates should be enthusiastic, confident, articulate, and dedicated to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review submittals and RFIs for owner submission.
- Analyze plans and specifications, collaborating with Project Managers and Engineers on requirements, including plan preparation, testing, field conditions, design changes, and reports.
- Coordinate subcontractors to ensure timely, safe, high-quality work.
- Track quantities for payment and cost management.
- Assist in developing and updating CPM schedules with activity durations and sequences.
- Support design of temporary works (e.g., falsework, shoring, formwork).
- Manage material procurement and delivery to meet project schedules.
- Ensure compliance with contract plans, submitting certifications and documentation to quality control.
- Develop safe, efficient work plans for project execution.
- Review shop drawings, as-builts, and contract documents for accuracy, submitting to the owner as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (required).
- Minimum 5 years of NCDOT/SCDOT experience (required).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, BlueBeam, and CAD; familiarity with P6 and HCSS preferred.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Travel Requirements
- Primarily local travel during business hours; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required.
