About the position

Air Compliance Technician – Oil & Gas | Morgantown, WV or Marietta, OH (Field-Based)

Our client, a growing oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in the Appalachian Basin, is looking for a diligent and safety-minded Air Compliance Technician to support regulatory compliance initiatives across operations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This role is primarily field-based and will require extensive travel to various drilling, completion, and production sites, as well as gathering pipeline locations. The position can be based out of either Morgantown, WV or Marietta, OH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) inspections using FLIR cameras on oil and gas facilities to comply with applicable state (e.g., Ohio EPA, PA DEP) and federal (e.g., NSPS OOOOa, OOOOb) air regulations.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy.

  • Execute field-level repairs and minor maintenance on emission control equipment—such as replacing gaskets, thief hatches, and other small mechanical components.

  • Collaborate with Production, Operations, and Regulatory teams to identify and resolve air compliance issues, particularly during drilling and completion SIMOPS.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews of inspection data to ensure completeness and accuracy, and organize data within internal digital systems.

  • Independently plan and manage daily site visits, with travel expectations of 70–80% throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania (including overnight stays).

  • Complete office-based tasks (approx. 20–30% of the role) such as entering data, generating reports, and preparing compliance documentation.

  • Maintain strict adherence to all safety policies and actively engage in training and safety meetings.

Ideal Background:

  • Associate’s degree in environmental science, engineering technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent experience (2+ years) in environmental or oil and gas field work will also be considered.

  • At least two (2) years of relevant field experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry.

  • Hands-on experience using monitoring tools and basic knowledge of equipment like compressors, gas turbines, and pumps.

  • Strong familiarity with upstream oil and gas operations and related air compliance standards.

  • Prior use of FLIR cameras for OGI inspections and LDAR activities is required.

  • Solid understanding of federal and state air quality regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 60 Subparts OOOOa and OOOOb.

  • Self-starter with the ability to manage time, prioritize effectively, and work independently in remote environments.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional approach when working with internal teams and external partners.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, and adaptable to using company-specific data management systems.

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record in line with company standards.

Work Environment:

  • Must be comfortable working in diverse outdoor conditions and navigating rugged terrain approximately 70–80% of the time.

  • The remaining 20–30% of the role will be performed in an office setting.
